The Eldred
Central School is a K-12 public
school district that consists of
the George Ross Mackenzie
Elementary School and the Eldred
Junior-Senior High School. In
general, the student population
consists of approximately 800
students. The district is
recognized for its formal
educational program that not
only emphasizes the college
Regents track, but also values
the individual interests and
benefits of each student.
Athletics, performing arts, and
after-school clubs are important
to the unique high school
experience Eldred offers to its
students.
The
George Ross Mackenzie Elementary
School focuses on a combined
literacy and hands-on
mathematics and science program.
Small, heterogeneous classes and
co-curricular clubs are
important to the school, and the
P.T.A. offers additional
cultural programs to provide the
students with a well-rounded
education and educational
activities.
For the
2004-2005 school year, Eldred is
currently working on creating a
wing within the junior-senior
high school to better facilitate
the 7th and 8th
grade students by providing a
smoother transition from sixth
grade into seventh grade and
allowing for an easier social
transition into high school.
The Board
of Education is preparing for
the 2004-2005 school year by
developing a mentoring system,
encouraging parent involvement,
creating a student-friendly
system, preparing a five-year
plan focusing on school facility
concerns, and aligning district
curriculum with the New York
State Learning Standards.
