Description

Magnificently restored Elizabethan stone cottage built in 1912 by the Singer family as a boat house on their 3,000 acre estate with 100 acre pristine mountain lake. Parceled off during the Depression this remains one of the few vestiges of a bygone era. The entire property is surrounded by unnique curved stone walls which surround beautiful perennial gardens and a 40 x 20 reflection pond which is used today to house a small school of baby koi.

The main section of the house has retained its integrity and remains untouched complete with original stone fireplace, clay tiled floors, leaded-glass windows, and beautifully crafted walnut domed ceiling and trim. The windows open to the lagoon which flows from the 100 acre lake.

A large foyer opens to the newly renovated kitchen which has custom old-style cherry wood cabinets, a 5-burner gas stove and an eating nook which overlooks the covered foot bridge and waterfall.

The guest bedroom with 2 walls of casement windows open to the sound of the waterfall. A full bath is located next to the guest room. The master bedroom lighted by many old-style windows and double doors which were purchased from an old estate. Pocket doors open to a private bath with shower and claw-foot tub.

The lower level consists of the stone work original to the boat house. Here there's the possibility of a 3rd bedroom. It is currently used as a library and rec room which also sleeps guest overflow. A half bath is smartly concealed under the curved stairway. Large double-doors open to the lagoon where there is a newly installed dock and is the entrance to the stone and cedar-shingled foot bridge.

Take a kayak and pass under a beautiful stone arch bridge one of original structures still remaining. This opens to the 100 acre lake where there is a wooden dock for swimming and boating. Two other stone structures on the property add to the charm and character of this unique property. A truly one-of-a-kind it was awarded an historic placque by the local historian on its excellence in restoring and retaining the integrity and beauty of this magnificent home.
